Doug grew up in Manchester, Tennessee where he enjoyed playing competitive sports. His deepest passion has always been basketball, but he also enjoyed playing baseball and tennis for many years while enduring cross country for conditioning purposes.
Doug believes that many positive life lessons can be learned through the pursuit of a difficult goal. He likes to say, “The struggle makes you stronger.” “I had a father that spent countless hours with me throwing a baseball, and basketball coaches that ran me to death. Through those experiences, I believe it helped me to become a better person that was more prepared for the ups and downs that everyone will face in the workforce and in life.”
Doug’s coaching philosophy is to practice and play hard with the stated goals of improving as a player and winning as a team. “Winning has to be the team goal or it’s impossible to remain focused. But, my true, not so hidden, motive is to see each player get stronger as a person and to become better equipped to compete.”
Doug is a member of West Park Baptist Church where he has served as youth leader for the past 10 years. He currently leads a weekly Bible study for sophomore boys. This is his second year to coach AAU basketball and his second year with the Fury.
Doug currently lives in Knoxville, Tennessee with his wife, Tammy, and their daughters, Kayla and Macy. He is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a biometrics company based in Philadelphia.
